Writer questions borrowing $2.5 million for new Lakewood stadium

It’s easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

Lakewood’s $2.6 million plus sports stadium will be built without taxpayer approval thanks to the creative financing of the “award-winning” treasurer. She has at least 10 awards according to the school board President Judy White at Tuesday night’s special board meeting.

Twenty-six parents, a dozen students and a few toddlers were in attendance as the board agreed to BORROW $2.5 million for what began as an athletics booster project. Perhaps the parent group at the Hebron Elementary School should gear up their fundraising efforts and they too can win the lottery! I wonder if they would settle for a functional, safe and comfortable academic environment surrounded by four new walls?

Stay tuned because the board has not yet confirmed the interest rate on that hefty loan. But, not to worry…they HAVE already set the date for the groundbreaking ceremony! It’s set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Calhoun Memorial Field. Okay then.

I wonder if it truly is easier to ask for forgiveness? By the way, good luck with the next levy campaign, Mrs. White!
