Writer opposes harassing geese

Dear Editor:

As a supporter of Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow, I was dismayed to read its promo piece advocating harassment of geese.

On Liebs Island we have a resident group of geese who already have maimed feet or wings. Harassing them will not make anyone’s life better.

A September 19, 2016 Dispatch article said that “studies have shown that those who abuse animals are five times more likely to be violent against a person and four times more likely to commit property crimes”. Animal harassment is no better than sexual harassment, police harassment, hazing, or bullying and should not be encouraged at Buckeye Lake whatsoever.

That said, the remainder of the promo piece was informative and a good reminder for us to do our part to preserve our lake.
