MILLERSPORT– The Millersport community was extremely generous to Walnut Township School District’s German Club White Christmas toy wrap program this year, whereby a crowd of students and volunteers helped to wrap holiday present packages full of donated items and items purchased through monetary donations Tuesday afternoon at Millersport High School. “It all stays right here in the community,” said Millersport High School German teacher Heather Hayden-Carey, who has led the Millersport High School German Club for the last 16 years in its mission to help spread holiday cheer throughout the Millersport community. “The community and staff and have been really awesome with donations.”
Hayden- Carey said this year’s toy drive will help 32 local families and 74 kids in need. She said she couldn’t even estimate how many toys and other items were donated to the cause. “I have no idea,” Hayden-Carey said.
Hayden-Carey said the German Club officers, Celeste Anderson, president; Hunter Ratcliff, vice president; Kyra Young, public relations; and Morgan Stanley, janitorial manager, led community fundraising, and collected nearly $1,000. “All the officers worked really ha rd to collect donat ions,” Hayden-Carey said.
The gifts will be distributed along with White Christmas food drive items with the help of the Millersport senior class and the Millersport Lyons Club.
Hayden-Carey said the White Christmas project is so big she needs to begin organizing it each year in October and collect donations in November.
Young said she found the project gratifying. “It lifts my spirit for the holidays knowing that I’m benefiting my community,” she said.
