Work to drain Lake Hayden to begin April 13

BUCKEYE LAKE – Lake draining is a scary term around Buckeye Lake.

Cranberry Bay area residents in Buckeye Lake Village are pleased that work begins April 13 to drain the stormwater that accumulates on Cranberry Lane in front of Charlene Hayden’s home after every steady to heavy rain.

Law General Contracting of St. Louisville will install an eight-inch storm water drain from an existing catch basin near southern end of Lighthouse Lane up Lighthouse to Cranberry Lane. The line will head west about 150 feet on Cranberry Lane. New catch basins will be installed on Cranberry Lane and at the corner of Lighthouse and Cranberry lanes.

Law has bid $13,914.61 to complete the project. After heavy rains, the storm water pooling in front of Hayden’s house can be more than a foot deep.

Street supervisor Mark Dymek asked Law for a quote late last year. The final bid was submitted in February. The bid wasn’t discussed with council members their Monday, April 10, meeting.

Last week, council member Peggy Wells had invited residents via a Letter to the Editor in The Beacon to come to the April 10 meeting to discuss their concerns and priorities about storm water. Her letter apparently broke the project loose.

About three dozen residents attended Monday night’s council meeting. Concerns were raised about Lake Hayden, North Bank Road behind the Buckeye Lake Storage buildings and the area around the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club parking lot.
