Winterfest getting bigger, better

BUCKEYE LAKE – Out of the winter doldrums comes the third annual Buckeye Lake Winterfest, the hottest party around, said Buckeye Lake Region Chamber of Commerce Trustee Mike Fornataro.

“We have more area locations involved, including places like Lakes’ End and Wall to Wall Floors in Millersport,” he said.

“New activities make every year a little better. Last year it was amazing! There are more and more groups are renting private buses to get around the region, and the lake businesses really look forward to this boost in their slowest time of the year. Winterfest has become the region-wide party of the year, and it’s in the depths of winter!”

Of course, Benny the Bass- Buckeye Lake’s answer to Punxsutawney Phil, will once again predict an early, or late, spring. After consecutive years of correctly prognosticating the arrival of spring – including correctly predicting last year’s weather, something even Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil couldn’t do-Buckeye Lake’s Benny the Bass is going for three in a row.

Benny’s prognostication will kick off the Third Annual Buckeye Lake Winterfest at dawn, (7 a.m.) on Saturday, Jan. 28. at the North Shore Boat Ramp, followed by a fireworks display 7:15 a.m.

As in years’ past, Winterfest will feature specially brewed Buckeye Lake Winterfest Ale courtesy of the Buckeye Lake Brewery and an art show at the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club with a larger than life ‘Benny the Bass’ ice sculpture.

This year, Winterfest will cover the entire weekend, including a polar plunge at Buckeye Lake Winery on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at Buckeye Lake and other activities.

Kick off at North Shore Ramp will feature music and the live Benny the Bass. Many local businesses are offing specials and events throughout the weekend. See the back page for specials at lake area entertainment venues. Other businesses participating include:

• Fisher’s Marina – Lieb’s Island: Open house on Saturday. Raffle/drawing for new logo merchandise, open house discounts on new boats and motors.
