William “Bill” A. Hughes




William “Bill” A. Hughes, loving husband and father, age 58 of Thornville, passed away January 16, 2015, in Columbus after a four year battle with Neuroendocrine cancer treatments, even traveling overseas to Europe. He beat the odds of the rare terminal disease.

Bill was born October 11, 1956, in Lancaster. He graduated in 1975 from Lancaster High School and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY, in 1980. Bill retired from ARC International with 26 years of employment. He coached his son’s sports teams throughout the years for football, basketball and baseball. Bill enjoyed his hobbies of fishing and boating on Buckeye Lake. He was inducted in the Lancaster High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted October 11, 2014, into the Eastern Kentucky University Athletic Hall of Fame as the 1979 NCAA 1AA National Champion Quarterback.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl of 26 years; loving son, Alex; mother, Margaret; sisters, Ginny Reid, Karen (Bruce) Baughman and Lisa (Mark) Kinniard, all of Lancaster; extended family; and special friends, Eddie (Sue) Laski, Chicago, IL and Corky (Pat) Prater, Vanceburg, KY.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delton Hughes.

Checks should be made out to: “OSU Foundation” and in the memo section of the check “OSU #310389”. Bill had donated cancerous tumors for research purposes to the OSU James Cancer Solove Research Center.

A memorial service was held January 24, 2015, at Seton Parish Catholic Church, Pickerington.
