What happened to freedom of speech?

I recently accompanied some neighbors to a Buckeye Lake Village Council meeting. Our concern was an unkempt property on Union Avenue.

During public comments, Jackie Sluder was told to sit down because she asked a question. Council president Jeryn Peterson was very rude and disrespectful.

When it was my turn, I was trying to support some points that council member Peggy Wells had made about why so many ordinances had to be passed as an emergency. Former council president Charlene Hayden and Charlotte Bassnett were laughing during her comments. So who is really ‘unruly.’

Public comments have already been limited to three minutes per person. I was shut down after 30 seconds because they didn’t like what I had to say. If they can’t take the heat, then they should get out of the kitchen.

The years go by and the faces change, but we still have the good ole boys and now gals running the village. Freedom of speech is definitely in danger at Buckeye Lake council meetings.

Thanks for the apology, Peggy.
