LAKE AREA – Hundreds of Buckeye Lake area residents took time Monday morning to honor our veterans. Ceremonies were held in Baltimore, Hebron, Millersport and Thornville.
Hebron American Legion Post 285 continued its long-standing tradition of conducting Memorial Day ser vices at nine cemeteries in Harrison, Licking and Union townships before marching with the Lakewood band from the Legion Hall to Hebron Cemetery for their final ceremony. Their circuit started at 6:45 a.m. at Licking Cemetery on Canyon Road. Each stop included a prayer, a 21-gun salute, laying a wreath and playing “Taps.”
Major James Moody, U.S. Army retired, of Columbus, gave a rousing speech praising veterans, our country, freedom and God. He concluded by asking the crowd to shout “God bless America.” He was greeted with a roar.
