HEBRON – American Legion Post 285’s Color Guard and Firing Squad cover a lot of ground every Memorial Day.
Their small caravan is on road just after dawn to conduct services at nine cemeteries by 9:15 a.m.
The first stop at 6:45 a.m. is the Licking Baptist Cemetery. Next is the Luray Cemetery at 7:00 a.m., followed by Kirkersville at 7:15 a.m., Harbor Hills at 7:40 a.m., Sanford Cemetery on Ohio 13 at 8:00 a.m., White Chapel at 8:15 a.m., Dawes Arboretum at 8:30 a.m., Jacksontown at 8:45 a.m. and finally Fairmont Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. The largest crowd waits for them at Fairmont.
Their services still aren’t done as they rush back to their Water Street Legion Hall for the 9:45 a.m. march to Hebron Cemetery. They remember!
