The November election is very important for Licking Township residents, as your fire department has a three mill levy on the ballot.
Currently, the Licking Township Fire Company is a part-time department that relies greatly on its volunteers. The fire department has been frugal with your tax dollars. It has provided part-time coverage 71 percent of the time with at least one staff member on duty.
Proper staffing in emergencies is important, requiring at least two personnel for an ambulance and three for a fire truck. Last year, we responded to 1,059 emergency calls, the most in department history. Again, this year we are projected to respond to 1,150 emergency calls.
The Hebron Fire Department has similar run volume and has five staff members on duty per day not including a full time chief and fire inspector. Due to an increase in training demands, family responsibilities, high run volume, and financial demands, fire department volunteers’ availability is decreasing.
With this levy, we will be able to fund three firefighters on station 24/7 365 days a year. Personnel will be able to respond immediately and not have to wait for volunteers to get to the station. We will be able to respond to you with proper and safe staffing during your emergency.
Vote Yes for Licking Township Fire Company on November 3.
