Virginia L. “Jinks” Melfi

A visitation celebrating the life of Virginia L. “Jinks” Melfi, 72, of Thornville, was held July 23, 2011, in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville.

Virginia died late July 20, 2011, in Lancaster, following a brief illness. She was born November 11, 1938, in Columbus, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary ( Schaaf) Fleming. She was the former co-owner of Melfi’s Café in Columbus, and had retired after working for Wendy’s at Buckeye Lake, where she was affectionately known as “grandma”.

She was a member of the Buckeye Lake VFW Post and AMVETS at Thornport, was fun loving, and enjoyed OSU football.

She is survived by her children, Joseph (Keri) of Fairfield Beach and Mary (Mike) Wohlheter of Newark; step-daughter, Rose Ann Melfi of Columbus; grandson, Shawn Cairney; sisters, Catherine Mawhirter of Columbus and Mary Ellen Ray of West Jefferson; and brother Patrick Fleming of Zephyr Hills, Fl.
