Vinton “Cleo” Franks

Vinton “Cleo” Franks, 93, of Thornville, passed away October 2, 2014, at Autumn at the Lake Nursing Home. He was born on July 23, 1921, in Thornville, son of the late George and Mary (Helser) Franks. Cleo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He retired from Rockwell International. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in the Battle of Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge, for which he received the presidential citation.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Anna Louise (Courson) Franks on June 25, 2014, sisters, Alva Franks, Burdell Lyle, Goldie Leaman, Pearl Broceus and Marjorie May; and brother, Elza Franks.

A funeral service, celebrating Cleo’s life, was held at Grace Lutheran Church, on October 7, 2014, with Pastors Beth Bateson and David Zandt officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.
