Veterans Day should be meaningful to us all

Editor:

Veterans Day – Nov. 11 – in a very real sense, should be of great significance to all Americans. This day has been so designated by the Congress of the United States in honor of the millions of sons and daughters who joined the armed forces in defense of Liberty and precious Freedoms.

Hundreds of thousands of gallant Americans have made the supreme sacrifice that the true American Heritage might be preserved. Other countless thousands bear the marks of combat incurred while meeting the highest obligation of their citizenship.

The code of the American soldier embraces the highest moral laws and stand the test of any ethics or philosophies ever promulgated for the uplift of mankind. Its requirements are for the things that are right, and its restraints are from the things that are wrong. The soldier above all other men, is required to practice the greatest act of religious training – sacrifice. In battle and in the face of danger and death, he discloses those divine attributes which his Maker gave when he created man in his own image. However horrible the incidents of war may be, the soldier who is called upon to offer and give his life for his country, is the noblest development of mankind. Soldiers above all people prays for peace, for it is he who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.

Let this Veterans Day be meaningful to each of us. A symbol of a united America, which will never succumb in the face of attacks of the godless hordes which would consume us.
