I was surprised and disappointed at the small turn out for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Day Ceremony at VFW Post 1388 on Memorial Day.
It was held at out beautiful Memorial on the VFW grounds. Allen “Pete” Stollard read the same speech he always reads but I am still, after hearing it many times, amazed at the number of Americans that have died in wars since our country’s founding. The Color Guard gave a rifle salute and played taps. A wreath was laid on the Memorial. It was a short yet moving service.
Sadly, there were only eight people in attendance. What a shame that more Americans can’t give up an half an hour to pay tribute to our fallen Veterans. No other group of people in the history of the world has done more for world peace than the American Veteran. We should thank God, every day that we live in a free society. It is because of our Veterans. Patriotism begins at home.
If you haven’t seen our hidden gem, the VFW Memorial, please drive over to the Post and get out and look at it. It is inspiring and humbling.
God Bless Our Veterans and God Bless America.
