Bike Buckeye Lake is Going the Distance at a Distance…..
Last year, Bike Buckeye Lake’s annual fundraising cycling event, Tour de Buckeye Lake, broke its two year by doubling participation to nearly 500 riders cycling around Buckeye Lake in a single day. With Tour de Buckeye Lake gaining in popularity and people increasingly seeking outdoor activities, Bike Buckeye Lake wanted to find a solution to safely have the event this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Tour de Buckeye Lake welcomes cyclists to ride whenever they want, as many times as they want, at no cost, over a three day period, August 21-23, 2020. In addition to extending the event over three days, further measures to avoid large gatherings include no traditional in-person registration, no pontoon water taxis, and no post-cycling party with live music, all of which the event has had in the past.
Maps will be provided the week of the event, which include 45-mile, 26-mile and 8-mile routes. Riders should register online, where they will have the option to donate to Bike Buckeye Lake’s mission of trail development around the lake.
Participants can register at bikebuckeyelake.org.
Bike Buckeye Lake is a volunteer-ran 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was established in 2015 for the purpose of developing a multi use trail around Buckeye Lake.
Donations to Bike Buckeye lake go toward the measures required for trail development, such as grant applications, land leases and acquisition, engineers and consultants, safety, maintenance, and publicity to garner support, unless donations are part of the organization’s annual Christmas Bike Drive. Bike Buckeye Lake holds an annual Christmas Bike Drive to provide underprivileged children in the tri-county area with a bike and helmet for Christmas. To date, Bike Buckeye Lake, through the generosity of supporters has given over 600 bikes and helmets to local children.
