Thurston gets $300,000 grant

COLUMBUS – State Senator Tim Schaffer (R- Lancaster) announced that the Village of Thurston in Fairfield County has been awarded a $300,000 grant for public infrastructure improvements. The funding was provided through the Ohio Department of Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.

“This grant will allow the Village of Thurston to undertake projects that will improve its infrastructure and also enhance the quality of life for residents,” Schaffer said. “Having healthy and vibrant communities also encourages economic development in our region, and I applaud the efforts of local Thurston officials in securing this grant money for our area.”

The grant funding will be used for a variety of projects, including replacing park equipment and the installation of 2,000 water meters, 12,480 linear feet of flood and drainage infrastructure, 2,925 linear feet of sidewalks and 85 street signs and traffic control devices. The improvements will leverage approximately $422,200 of additional funds. In all, more than $2.7 million in grants was awarded to 11 communities across Ohio.
