Thomas Paul Getreu




A funeral mass, celebrating the life of Thomas Paul Getreu, 76, of Pataskala, was held November 26, 2011, at The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Buckeye Lake, with Rev. Fr. William Ferguson as celebrant. Burial with full military honors followed at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Lockbourne.

Tom died early November 23, 2011, in Columbus following a long illness. He was born in Columbus, on December 20, 1934, the son of the late Leo and Agnes (Kaiser) Getreu. He was a 1953 graduate of Holy Rosary High School in Columbus. He worked for over 40 years as a skilled tool and die maker for Capitol Tool and Die and later Worthington Industries.

He loved Buckeye Lake, spending time at his cottage there, boating and fixing things as well as making things work.

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Maxine; his daughters, Lori (Paul) Marcum of Pickerington, Lisa Jones (Terry) of Reynoldsburg, Lynne (Ralph) Pence of Coppell, Texas and Leslie (Mark) Reed of Pickerington; his son, Eric (Marvien) Getreu of Lithopolis; his grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Robinson, Elizabeth Jones, Adam Marcum, Jordan Pence, Erica (Seth) Stewart, Christopher Reed, Travis Pence, Caitlyn and Holly Reed; his three great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Jacob and Jared; his brother, James (Mary) Getreu of Canal Wincheste;r and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Galutia and Mary Duncombe; and his brother, Dan Getreu.
