Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Night Hike – Friday, Feb. 20, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Free, meet at the Vistiros Center deck. Experience The Arboretum at niht! Kids and adults are welcome to attend the hike through collections, woodlands and trails on one of our most popular programs.

Maple Syrup Madness – Saturday, Feb. 21 – Saturday, March 7, Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sundays, 1 – 4 p.m. Free, at the Log Cabin. From treetop to tabletop, the history of syrup production is fascinating. The Maple Trail leads curious hikers from the Shelter House to the Log Cabin where they’ll find a crackling fire, lots of sweet-smelling steam and samples of syrup. Guide yourself down the Maple Trail or take part in a guided tour starting at the Shelter House on Saturdays at 2 p.m. Group tours are also available on weekdays as well.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. Call 740-323-2355 or 800-44- DAWES for information or visit

Pancake Breakfast – Thurston. The Thurston-Walnut Township Fire Department holds its monthly pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 21 at the Thurston firehouse, 8474 High St. Suggested donations are $5 for adults and $3 for children. The menu is pancakes, eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits, OJ, coffee, tea, and milk. Firefighters will be available to answer questions, and will be selling T-shirts and reflective address signs.

Teen Library League – Hebron. The Hebron Library invites teens in grades six through 12 to join the Library League. The Library League is a group of teens teaming together to chat about books, what’s current and library programs. Teens have the opportunity to share their ideas and hang-out with other teens. No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament – Millersport. The Millersport Little Lakers are sponsoring a two-day tournament, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Millersport American Legion Hall, 2557 Canal St. Cash tables open at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Life of a Tuskegee Airman – Newark. The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College is hosting a special multimedia presentation honoring the life of a Tuskegee Airman from Ohio. “Howard Arthur Tibbs – Citizen, Musician, Air Corps and Tuskegee Airman, A Part of the Greatest Generation,” will be presented by the airman’s son, Phillip Tibbs, on Thursday, February 19, 6 – 7 p.m., in the John L. and Christine Warner Library and Student Center, room 175. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the Warner Center’s Constance Corkwell Baldwin Fireside Lounge.

The Changing Climate of Agriculture – Granville. The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association’s (OEFFA) 30th annual conference is set for Feb. 21-22 at Granville High School, 248 New Burg St., Granville. The conference features nearly 50 workshops, a trade show and two keynote speakers. Workshops range from Building Your Own Greenhouse to Vet Tips for Small Farmers. Art From the Heart – Newark. The Works is hosting “Art From the Heart,” a family event, on Saturday, February 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is invited. There will be a variety of children’s art and health-related activities going on throughout the day. Children can create works of art using acrylic and watercolor paints or experiment with mixed media. There will also be a “Fun With Physics Show” and a demonstration of an electromagnetic generator in The Works Ecolab Theater. Visitors can watch live glassblowing throughout the day, with narrated demonstrations at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Admission to the event is $3 for children, $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for members of The Works. Prices include admission to the entire museum. “Heritage of American Music” – Millersport. The Millersport Community Theatre presents “Heritage of American Music” 2009 Minstrel on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m. at the Millersport Elementary School auditorium.
