Dawes Arboretum Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Night Hike- Friday, May 18, 8:30 – 10:30pm. Explore the curious noises and scents of the night on the ever-popular Dawes Arboretum Night Hike. Free, meet at the Visitors Center Deck

Plant Sale & Auction- Saturday, May 19, 10am – 2pm. An incredible assortment of rare trees and shrubs are offered at reasonable prices at this event. The vast majority of these plants cannot be found in garden centers and nurseries. A silent auction of choice specimens will also take place. Horticulturists will be on hand to answer your plant questions and offer planting advice. Free, meet at the Horticulture Complex.

Japanese Garden Pruning- Saturday, June 2, 8:30 – 10:30am.Let the Japanese Garden curator, Keith Stevens, guide you through pruning techniques used in Japanese gardens. Impress your friends with the knowledge you’ll gain about these exotic, but very practical techniques. The nature of eastern gardens is to be discreet; because this is often misunderstood, their true beauty is overlooked. After an extended discussion, you’ll be given the opportunity to apply your new found knowledge in The Arboretum’s beautiful Japanese Garden. Other Japanese garden maintenance will be discussed as well as a tour of the Garden. $15/$10 members, reservation required, meet at the Visitors Center.

“Fool for Love” Newark. Production of “Fool for Love” at 7:30 p.m. on May 24, 25, 26 and 31, and June 1 and 2 in the Black Box Theatre at OSU-Newark in LeFevre Hall. Admission is $4.

Ham & Eggs Concert Lancaster. The Lancaster Men’s Chorus presents its 36th annual Ham & Eggs Concert May 17 – 19, at the Ohio University – Lancaster branch theatre. Curtain time is 8:00 PM sharp. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased from any chorus member or by calling North End Press – 653-6514 or Cefalu Insurance – -654-0332. Tickets are also available at the door.

“Hookahville 27” Thornville. Hookahville returns to Legend Valley May 25-27, featuring Ekoostik Hookah. Special guests are: Rusted Root, The Wailers, Hot Buttered Rum, Tea Leaf Green, Freekbass, Oakhurst, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Back Forty, The Ark Band, Macpodz, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Papadosio and Stephan Mikes. The Circus is Coming Buckeye Lake. The Buckeye Lake FirefightersAssociation is bringing back the popular Kelly Miller Circus for two shows, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., under the big top behind Albanese Food Gallery on Ohio 79. Advance tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children and are available at Albanese Food Gallery, Park National in Hebron and National City in Buckeye Lake. Admission at the gate is $12 for adults and $6 for children.

Nature Fest and Woodcarvers Show William C. Kraner Nature Center. Join the Licking Park District from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 19 for Nature Fest in conjunction with the Land of Legend Woodcarvers’ spring show and sale. Programs include bird hikes, stream studies, soil and water studies and much more. Displays from Earth-friendly groups around Licking County and Central Ohio will also be set up, along with year round displays of native wildlife and natural history at the Nature Center. A variety of live animals including birds of prey will be present to view up close in person. The woodcarvers’ show also returns Sunday, May 20 from noon until 4 p.m. Beautiful pieces of art work will be for sale. The Land of Legend Woodcarvers are known for their intricate carvings and detail to their craft. Admission is free. For more information, please call the Licking Park District at (740) 587-2535

Theatre

South Pacific Newark. Weathervane Playhouse presents South Pacific, with award-winning music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. South Pacific is considered by many to be the greatest musical of all time. Li’l Abner Auditions Millersport. Try out for the Millersport Community Theatre’s production of Li’l Abner at 2 p.m. May 26 or 6 p.m. on May 27 in Steve Mohler’s music room in the Millersport Elementary School. Bring a lively song to sing, an accompanist will be provided. If you can’t make either day, call Steve Mohler (740- 467-2029) for an appointment.

Dennison Railroad FestivalDennison, May 16 – 20. The Historic Center Street District of Dennison serves as the location of the 28th annual Dennison Railroad Festival held around our gazebo and Historic Railroad Depot Museum. Five fun filled days of great amusement rides, food, games, activities, train exhibit and two stages of constant entertainment for all ages. The Historic Depot Museum will have extended hours for touring. Fireworks show Friday at 10pm. Grand parade held Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Car show held Sunday at noon. National Road Yard SaleUS 40 through Licking County. Communities and folks along the Licking County portion of Rt. 40/National Road are having yard sales! Start at the east end of the county at Brownsville and travel west to Kirkersville and beyond! Some sales go from 5/30 to 6/3 but most along the road will only have sales on Sat., June 3 from 9 am to 4 pm. Contact (740) 928-8320.
