Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Preservation Series: Preserving Your Family Photographs – From 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. Cost: Non-members – $15; Members – $10. The Arboretum Archivist will demonstrate techniques that focus on the needs of a typical family’s photograph collections. Participants will learn how to properly store and care for their photograph collections and where they can buy their supplies. They will also get a behind-thescenes look at some of the historic photographs in the Arboretum’s archival collections. Participants are encouraged to bring family photographs (no more than 5) that have specific preservation needs. Participants will take home an archival kit including an information sheet, photo enclosures, archival folders, white gloves, and a pencil.

Little Buckeye Imagination Sessions: What Can Water Do? – From 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25. Learn with a group as creative educators bring families closer to the wonders of the natural world. These programs, designed for children ages three to eight, keep the body moving and brain exercising as science is combined with games, crafts, stories and music. What Can Water Do?: We need water for drinking, but see how it can do so much more. The program is free. Registration is not required.

Blackhand Gorge Tour – from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 3. Cost: Non-members – $10; Members – $8. Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve is one of the treasures of Licking County. Boasting nearly 1,000 acres, it is home to numerous wildflowers, trees, and shrubs. Join Arboretum Botanist Dr. David Brandenburg on hike in search of interesting wild plant species, while pointing out significant non-natives along the way. Attendees will meet at The Dawes Arboretum’s Visitors Center.

Spring Valley Nature Preserve Tour – from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3. Cost: Nonmembers – $10; Members – $8. Spring Valley Nature Preserve is a 45 acre wooded property with a unique history and role in conserving greenspace in the watershed of Raccoon Creek. The former site of the Spring Valley pool, the land was restored and permanently protected from future development by the Licking Land Trust in 2007 with the support of many community partners. Today, the property is managed by the Granville Recreation District. Nature lovers will enjoy this guided hike with Doug Spieles, President of the Licking Land Trust, and Shana Byrd, Director of Land Conservation, The Dawes Arboretum, exploring the peaceful wooded trails and open meadows while learning about the collaboration that made conservation of this site possible.. Attendees will meet members of the Licking Land Trust at the preserve entrance, located at 1539 Columbus Road Granville, OH 43023.

Granville Farmers Market – Granville. This Saturday the market moves from its usual location on North Main Street between Broadway and College streets to St. Edward’s Catholic Church on Newark-Granville Road. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon. All kinds of good thing to eat and drink.

Summer Movie Nights in the Park – Veterans’ Park, Millersport. Bring the family to a free summer movie in Veterans’ Park (next to the village office). Activities start at 7 p.m. with the movies beginning at dusk. Free popcorn with a food truck and Weldon’s Ice Cream available. Activities for kids before the movie. Please no tents, alcohol or pets. Try It! Canoe and Kayak – Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Stop by Mirror Lake from 1 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, and test out the water with our canoes and kayaks. Wavier must be completed onsite; all youth must be accompanied by a consenting adult. Must be 12 to be on the water solo. FREE!

Perry County Fair New Lexington. The lake area’s first county fair of the season runs July 16 – 21. Legends Drum Corps rehearsal – Lakewood High School, Hebron. Lakewood High School is hosting Legends Drum & Bugle Corps rehearsals from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 19. Licking River PaddleBlack Hand Gorge State Nature Reserve. Join the Licking Park District on Saturday, July 21, for a 4-mile paddle down the Licking River from SR668 to Toboso Road on the Licking River. The trip will take 2-3 hours, depending on stops in Blackhand Gorge. Try your hand at either a kayak or canoe, as we explore this beautiful stretch of water and its flora, fauna, and history. Space is limited and registration is required. 5 years old and up. Must be at least 12 years old to go alone in a kayak. Weather dependent; cost is $5 (cash only) per person for transit.

Paint the Parks – Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Come and explore your creative side from 6 – 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, at the James Bradley Senior Center! Our instructor will guide you step by step through the night’s painting. The $25 fee includes pizza, snacks, and all painting supplies. BYO wine or beer. Registration required.

Celina Lake Festival – Grand Lake St. Marys, Celina. The top attraction for this year’s Celina Lake Festival is the 50th anniversary of the last Amphicar to roll off the assembly line. A total of 3,878 Amphicars were built in Germany from 1961 to 1968, with 3,046 imported into the United States. It is believed that there are less than 600 seaworthy still in existence today. Originally offered in just four colors, many today have been customized with paint and accessories. Their official festival appearances include a Swim- In on Friday evening and you can see the entire contingent of Amphicars as they take part in the Grand Parade on Saturday evening. For the special anniversary they will be offering rides for the public throughout the weekend in exchange for a small donation to a local charity.

The festival runs July 27 – 29, offering plenty of summer fun for the entire family, including a huge collector car show, a fun car/boat poker run, a large craft show, free boat rides, a 5K run and music by the Decades Band on Friday night followed by the Fabulous Fireworks over the lake, Saturday evening’s Grand Parade and Saturday night entertainment with The Lynyrd Skynyrd Experience. Sunday is a special treat for the kids with lots of free fun including a kids fishing derby, pontoon rides, kiddie tractor pull, archery and canoeing. Admission and parking are free. The Original Super Chevy Show – National Trail Raceway, Hebron. The 32nd Annual Super Chevy Show is back and bigger than ever July 27 – 28. Kickin’ Ash Splash Pool Party – Heath City Water Park. Licking County Health Department’s 14th annual Kickin’ Ash Splash Pool Party starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, at the Heath City Water Park! This family-friendly event encourages active and healthy lifestyles free from tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. The Kickin’ Ash Splash event aims to teach families of Licking County how to incorporate healthy foods and physical activities into their lifestyles by providing healthy snacks, games and giveaways. Admission after 5:30 p.m. is at a reduced rate of $2; Free to 2018 water park members. Full Moon Gathering – Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Join us at Infirmary Mound Park at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, as we gather by the light of the moon this month for a guided hike and a guided horseback ride. You must bring your own horse; minimum rider age is 9 years. Helmet required for riders under 18. Followed by a bonfire and s’mores! Riders ride out at 8 PM, hikers at 8:30 PM.

Baltimore Festival – Johnson Park, Baltimore. With a new board, the revitalized Baltimore Festival returns August 2-4.Festivalopensa5p.m.on Thursday, Aug 2. 38th Annual Mopar Nationals – National Trail Raceway, Hebron. Mopar Heaven returns August 10 – 12. Everything MOPAR with 3000 cars that represent all eras of the Chrysler brands, featuring classics, muscle cars, the highperformance new models and AMC’s for a one of a kind everything Mopar weekend. This year’s tribute is to the Plymouth Road Runner & 1968! 1968 was the introduction of the all New Plymouth Road Runner. It was offered with only two engines, 383 & 426 Hemi. The Nats will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary with a special display of all the years of the Road Runner starting with 1968-1974, 1975, and 1976-1980.

Ice Cream Social – Glenford. The Hopewell Methodist Church’s annual ice cream social is set for 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, at the Gower Road, Glenford church. Homemade chicken noodles, baked beans , sloppy joes, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, pie, cake, and ice cream.

Buckeye Lake Tour of Homes – Buckeye Lake Winery, Fairfield Beach. The 33rd annual Buckeye Lake Tour of Homes is set for Sunday, August 12. Water and weather permitting, the tour will be via pontoon boats departing from the Buckeye Lake Winery to tour six Buckeye Lake homes – two island homes, the classic lighthouse home, two newly remodeled cottages and one original remodeled home. Tours start from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Advance tickets at $20 are available for purchase prior to July 24. Day of tour tickets are very limited and cost $25. Tour de Buckeye Lake – Buckeye Lake Winery. The second annual Tour de Buckeye Lake is set for Saturday, August 25. The Bike Buckeye Lake event offers three distinct bicycling courses (12, 25 or 38 miles) around beautiful Buckeye Lake. Ride begins and ends at the Buckeye Lake Winery (13750 Rosewood Dr., Thornville 43076). Pre-registration is $35 per rider via www.bikebuckeyelake.org. First 200 riders registered receive a goodie bag from local businesses. Ride day registration is $40 per rider and begins at 9 a.m. at The Winery. Dion Pride – Ohio Valley Opry, Twin City Opera House, McConnelsville. Dion Pride, the son of legendary Charlie Pride, is the special guest for the July 21st Ohio Valley Opry show.

A crowd favorite, Dion always pleases the audience with classic country tunes of his father’s in addition to songs he penned himself. Dion entertains folks of all ages, and no one goes away disappointed. In addition to Dion Pride, Ohio Valley Opry regulars – The Clark Family, Matt Coleman, Beth Sigler-Bigham, Mike Morrison, and comedian Uncle Doofus will be appearing. The Bellwether Music Festival Renaissance Park, Waynesville, OH. The Bellwether Music Festival is a two-day, two-stage alternative music festival with available camping August 10-11, at Renaissance Park in southwestern Ohio, just outside of Waynesville. “Merrily We Roll Along” – Weathervane Playhouse, Newark.
