Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Beginner Tai Chi Chuan – from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sundays, April 15, 22 and 29 and May 6, 13 and 20. Cost: Non-members – $65; Members – $55. Tai Chi is designed to increase muscle and cardiovascular strength; improve balance, joint flexibility and posture; and support mental health. This class focuses on basic Tai Chi skills along with completion of the Modified Tai Chi Chuan Short Form (Yang Style). Basic warm-ups start the class with a new portion taught each week. Students should wear comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes. Fee includes 6 sessions.

Intermediate Tai Chi Chuan – from 2 – 3 p.m. on Sundays, April 15, 22 and 29 and May 6, 13 and 20. Cost: Non-members – $65; Members – $55. Tai Chi is designed to increase muscle and cardiovascular strength; improve balance, joint flexibility and posture; and support mental health. The intermediate class focuses on more advanced warm-ups, the complete Modified Tai Chi Chuan Short Form (Yang Style) from the beginner’s class and additional Qi Gong exercises, further enhancing the benefits of the practice. Students are required to complete the beginner class at least once prior to participating in the intermediate class. Students should wear comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes. Fee includes 6 sessions.

Arbor Day Festival – from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. FREE! Celebrate trees and nature at The Dawes Arboretum’s annual Arbor Day Festival, presented by Park National Bank. Expect a funfilled day with hands-on activities for families like crafts, educational displays, tree climbing, tours, special entertainment and giveaways including trees for the first 500 visitors (limit 1 per family). Purchase lunch from a food truck and plan to stay awhile to enjoy all this celebration has to offer. Children can get an amazing, new perspective on trees by participating in supervised tree climbing. Participants won’t want to miss presentations featuring animals from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium at noon and 1pm.Arboretum staff and many of its community and conservation partners host interactive displays offering crafts and activities throughout the day.

Granville Farmers Market – Granville. It’s back, starting Saturday, May 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon on North Main Street between Broadway and College streets. All kinds of good thing to eat and drink.

Ohio Barn Conference – Carroll County. The annual conference is set for April 27 – 28, in Carroll County. Join barn enthusiasts, barn owners and maybe even a few barn “huggers” at Ohio’s only annual barn tour & conference. Friday, April 27, is an all-day bus tour, including lunch, visiting several century barns. We will be visiting a barn that was converted from gable to gambrel construction that also sports some incredible stone work in the foundation. There will be an amazing double-crib log barn made of virgin timber to view on the tour as well. Other stops will include the Carroll County Golden Age Retreat barn as well as a very old scribe-rule Sweitzer barn and accompanying sandstone house.

Saturday’s barn conference also includes lunch and will feature local historians, guest speakers, demonstrations and a good dose of barn lore. Gluten Free Food Allergy Fest – Ohio Expo Center. The ultimate Gluten-Free Party is coming to Columbus April 28 -29, and you don’t want to miss it! Come explore the Gluten-Free Food Allergy fest and sample tons of great Gluten-Free products from over 75 exhibitors. Hosted by Gluten-Free & More magazine this two-day event gives you the opportunity to learn from experts, attend cooking demos from world-class chefs and eat tons of awesome gluten-free food…and of course, there will be dairy-free and nut-free options as well. First of the Season Car Show – Buckeye Lake. The Buckeye Lake Museum and Kar Shoz’s Jim Matheny are teaming up again for the first area car show this season. Registration begins at noon on Saturday, April 28, at the Laid-Back Saloon, 10990 Mill Dam Road, Buckeye Lake. Awards will be announced at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is just $10; show day is $12. All cars and motorcycles are welcome. Proceed will help restore the museum’s authentic sternwheeler, the Queen of the Lake III. Door prizes, food and live music by Matt Linkous. Kick off the car show season in Buckeye Lake. Mohican Wildlife Weekend Malabar Farm State Park, Loudenville. The Mohican Wildlife Weekend is offering activities that promote and attract pollinators like bees, butterflies and bats. Most activities are free. The events held at Malabar Farm State Park include activities on Saturday, April 28, such as a wildflower hike at 8:30 a.m., a session on Ohio’s bats at 10 a.m., a vernal pool study at 11 a.m., a grass caterpillar kid’s activity from noon-4 p.m., a mushroom hike at 2 p.m. and a wildlife barn dance from 7-10 p.m. On Sunday, April 29, activities at Malabar Farm include a mushroom hike at 10 a.m., a birding hike at 1 p.m., a butterfly and skippers program at 3:30 p.m. and a grass caterpillar kid’s activity from noon-4 p.m. For more details on all of the participating locations and activities, go to mohicanwildlifeweekend.com.

Spring Wildflower Hike – Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, Yellow Springs. The spring ephemerals are likely the best feature of Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, and the relatively untouched forest found on the dolomite slopes here have allowed these colonies of wildflowers to flourish. Join us on Saturday, April 28, at 9 a.m. for this spring wildflower hike and learn about some of these short-lived beauties. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Six One Pour Festival Huntington Park, Columbus. Six One Pour: The Ohio Craft Beer Fest returns to Huntington Park in the Columbus Arena District from 6 – 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. The festival is the signature event of the 2018 Columbus Craft Beer Week celebration and with over 50 Ohio craft breweries participating. . This year’s collaboration brew – Confluence – is an American IPA collaboration among 20 Central Ohio breweries, brewed specifically for Columbus Craft Beer Week and Six One Pour. Advance general admission tickets are $45, which includes a souvenir glass and tasting tickets for 20 four-ounce samples. Early admission tickets are $55 and include admission at 5 p.m. Designated driver admission isr $15. Sugar Creek Bluegrass – Baltimore. The energetic young band from central Ohio made up of brothers and sisters performs at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Victoria Opera House. The band performs traditional bluegrass, old time, and gospel music inspired by legends like Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley. Sugar Creek has shared the stage with some amazing bluegrass bands including Dailey & Vincent, Russell Moore, Rhonda Vincent, Joe Mullins, Flatt Lonesome, Mountain Faith and many others.
