Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Fox Frenzy & Coyote Craze – Learn from a local wildlife expert – 5 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. Cost: Non-members $8; Members $3. Zane State professor, Al Parker, will be joining The Dawes Arboretum for an exciting presentation on some of Ohio’s carnivorous canines. Come ready to learn all about foxes and coyotes from a local wildlife expert.

Pruning in the Landscapes: The Basics – 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Feb. 25. Cost: Nonmembers $25; Members $20 Proper pruning enhances the beauty and value of almost any landscape tree and shrub so they live longer and healthier lives. The basics of pruning are covered along with how to “unshear” a plant, rejuvenation, correcting deer damage and more. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced gardener, this presentation will have you pruning like a pro! Join Arboretum Director of Living Collections Mike Ecker for this informative session.

Maple Syrup Days – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, March 12. FREE! Learn the history and process of maple sugaring as you meander down the paved trail toward The Arboretum’s log cabin. Inside, docents greet you with a warm fire and a taste of syrup as you witness the evaporator at work turning sap into syrup. During Maple Syrup Days, the cabin is open from 10 am – 4 pm daily and guided tours are offered on Saturdays at 2 pm. Organized groups can schedule a free, private tour by calling 800.44.DAWES.

World War II: Back The Attack! Arsenal of Democracy – The Works, Newark. This temporary history exhibit is curated by Tracie Hill, Works’ firearms curator. Admission to “Back The Attack” is free to the public and open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through April 1, 2017. General admission is required to experience The Works Museum.

Saturday Movie Musical Matinee -Buckeye Lake Library. Join us for a Movie Matinee at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18. The film, set in 1950s, follows a World War II veteran/ reporter who is covering a local murder trial for the paper. As the trial unfolds, the reporter finds that he may hold the key to the defendant’s innocence.

The Columbus Dispatch Home and Garden Show – Ohio Expo Center. You’ll find the craftsmen, experts and professionals from more than 350 companies for every area of your home – inside and out – who are ready to talk with you about your ideas and projects. Explore emerging trends in home design, décor, furnishings, remodeling, gadgets and technologies February 18 -26. Plus immerse your senses in a dozen spectacular gardens. Owl Walk – Mohican State Park. Welcome to an evening all about owls in Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 25, from 8-10 p.m. Meet at the Nature Center in the Class A campground. Learn about the different species of owls and their life histories. Then a short hike to call our region’s most stealthy predator, the owl! Dress for the weather. Homeschool Trivia – Buckeye Lake Library. All homeschoolers are invited to show off their trivia knowledge in subjects like science, history, and so much more at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 20.

Preschool Storytime – Buckeye Lake Library. Preschool storytime returns every Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. February 22 through March 15. Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited to attend the weekly Storytime program, complete with stories, songs, snacks, and a craft as well as laughter and learning.

Owl Prowl – Burr Oak State Park. Hocking Hills State Park naturalist Pat Quackenbush will lead this program at Burr Oak State Park on Thursday, Feb. 23, which starts in the lodge with a presentation including a live owl! Then we will head outside for a hike to call for owls. The lodge will offer soup beans and cornbread for purchase prior to the program. Complimentary hot chocolate will be served. The Lighthouse 9th Annual Style Show and Luncheon – Lancaster. Emmy Award- Winning journalist and 10TV co-anchor Angela An will be the Emcee for the annual Lighthouse Domestic Violence Shelter Spring Luncheon and Style Show from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Lancaster Country Club. The Lighthouse Shelter has been helping victims of domestic violence in this area for more than thirty-five years – providing a safe haven, court advocates, and counseling. All About Cats Expo Ohio Expo Center. A great show for pet lovers of all ages! Over 200 cats of all types will compete March 10 – 12 for ribbons in an officially judged TICA (The International Cat Association) Event, hosted by Show Cats Columbus. Pancake & Sausage Breakfast – Millersport. The Millersport Lions Club is sponsoring a pancake & sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 11, at the Lions Clubhouse. Field and Stream Outdoor Life Deer and Turkey Expo – Ohio Expo Center. Ohio Beef Expo – Ohio Expo Center. The Ohio Beef Expo is Ohio’s premier beef industry event. The March 17 – 19 Expo includes a trade show, breeding cattle sales and a junior show.
