Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Walk to Be Well – Three sessions (7:15 – 8:00 a.m.; Stroller Stroll 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.; and 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.) at the Visitors Center deck every Wednesday. FREE! There are new opportunities to socialize and get moving in 2015! Enjoy a morning or evening stroll as staff and volunteers lead a group through The Arboretum grounds during these weekly walks (30 – 45 minutes). Stroller Strolls are intended for caregivers with young children to explore the outdoors together from the comfort of a paved trail.

Adult Night Hike: Frogs and Their Calls – 9:00 – 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. Tour The Dawes Arboretum’s Dutch Fork Wetlands after dark in search of the sights and sounds of amphibians in summer. You may even catch a glimpse of other wetland wildlife! Meets at the Dutch Fork Wetlands on White Chapel Road. Ages 18 & up. Register by Thursday, June 25.

Second Saturdays Speaker Series: Tallgrass Prairies of Ohio and a Recipe for Making a Prairie Garden – 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11. FREE! The Tallgrass Prairie Biome is unique to North America. Our prairies are a product of what scientists call the rain shadow of the Rocky Mountains. In this presentation, Guy Denny, current President and a founding member of the Ohio Natural Areas & Preserves Association, examines the origin and ecology of the prairies of North America and, more specifically, the tallgrass prairie biome.Participants get a close look at the different types of native tallgrass prairie remnants found in Ohio with particular attention to the flora and fauna of Ohio’s tallgrass prairie ecosystems. The second part of this presentation covers, in detail, how to go about establishing and maintaining your own tallgrass prairie garden, large or small. Please register.

Therapy Dog Reading Program – Buckeye Lake Library. Families are invited to come to the Buckeye Lake Library on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. to read to Angel, a certified therapy dog. Families can register for individual reading sessions. The program is free and registration is encouraged. We will provide books, but you can also bring a personal favorite with you as well. Don’t miss this wonderful reading opportunity.

Granville Farmers Market – Granville. It’s back!! Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon on North Main Street between Broadway and College streets. All kinds of good thing to eat and drink.

Warbler Seminar – Buckeye Lake. Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society & Museum is hosting

Christopher Tonra of The Ohio State University at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at the museum in the first of its natural resources series. Free will donations are accepted as admission. Tonra’s presentation is Ecology and Conservation Across the Annual Cycle: Highlighting new research of Prothonotary Warbler in Ohio. The Prothonotary Warbler Nest Watch program on historic Cranberry Bog has been in existence since 2012. The Prothonotary flies from South America every April to prepare nesting areas for his mate, who arrives in May. For more information visit www.buckeyelakehistory.org

Family Movie Night – Newark. The community is invited to a Family Movie Night on Saturday, June 27, on the grounds of Licking Memorial Hospital-Tamarack, located at 2000 Tamarack Road, off West Main Street in Newark. Community members may arrive beginning at 8:00 p.m., and the film, Charlotte’s Web, will begin at dusk (approximately 9:00 p.m.). Free snacks and beverages will be provided during the event. Pets, tobacco products, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating during the outdoor movie.

The Energy Cooperative’s Kids Day – Newark. The annual Kids Day is from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday June 28, at The Works in downtown Newark. There will be lots of activities for members of all ages including: Live music with Johnny Thief & The Kleptones, Magic Shows with Dave Lehman, a scavenger hunt, carriage and pony rides, bounce houses and obstacle courses, kids crafts, goody bags, door prizes, treats and full access to The Works! This event is completely FREE and open only to members of The Energy Cooperative, their children and grandchildren. Uploading Your Resume – Newark. Learn how to successfully upload your resume to an email or website from 1 – 3 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at Licking County Library, Newark. Basic computer skills are required for this class. FREE! Registration is required.

Civil War Heroes of Licking County – Hebron Library. School aged children and their families are invited to join us from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, along with Licking County Library’s Doug Stout, for an interactive presentation about our local heroes and heroines of the Civil War. See how they lived, dressed, and fought in the War Between the States. FREE!

Superhero Feats of Strength – Buckeye Lake Library. The Works will be at the Buckeye Lake Library on Wednesday, July 1, at 2:00 p.m. Families will learn about forces and simple machines, and then perform feats of strength. This event is free and open to the public, however registration is required.

Granville 4th of July Celebration – Granville. The annual celebration is July 1-4. Rides and concessions open at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Wednesday nights features Granville’s Got Talent from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and A Little Bit of Soul from 9 – 11 p.m. Concessions and rides open at noon on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday features a youth fiddling contest from 3 – 5 p.m. and 6 – 7 p.m., Andy Carlson & Friends from 5-6 p.m., Pete Shew and the Back Porch Swing Band from 7 – 9 p.m., Conspiracy Band from 8 – 10 p.m. at Wildwood Park and fireworks at Wildwood Park at 10 p.m. Friday features Captain Fantastic and the Magic of Elton John from 8:30 – 11:00 p.m. The 42nd annual Firecracker Five Race starts at 7:45 a.m. at the Granville Middle School. Independence Day Concert & Fireworks – Newark. The annual Independence Day Concert and Fireworks display will be held on Friday, July 3, on the campus of OSU-Newark and COTC. The event is free and open to all. The evening’s celebration begins with popular local singing duo, Sticks & Stones at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra at approximately 8 p.m. A fireworks display will begin at dusk to the accompaniment of patriotic favorites performed by the symphony. A number of local vendors will be serving food and beverages on the campus grounds during the event. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnics and blankets for a fun-filled evening of music and entertainment. Free parking is available.

BLASST – Over Buckeye Lake. The traditional communityfunded fireworks spectacular shoots off at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 3, from Fairfield Beach. Buckeye Lake boat ramps will be CLOSED July 3. No food will be available on park property. Please patronize our local restaurants and stores.

Licking County Genealogical Society – Newark. This month’s program is “Welsh Society,” presented by Rev. Stacy Evans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, in Meeting Room A at the Licking County Library. Free and open to the public.

Red Cross Pillowcase Project – Hebron Library. School aged children and their families are invited to join us from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 7, along with the American Red Cross, to learn how to be a hero to your family and community through personal and family preparedness and basic coping skills. Children grades 2 – 6 will receive a sturdy pillowcase, while supplies last, upon completion of the program in which they are encouraged to build their personal emergency supplies kit. FREE!

Superhero Bingo & Ice Cream Party – Buckeye Lake Library. Families are invited to the Buckeye Lake Library on at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, for a Bingo and ice cream party. FREE and open to the public. Registration is not needed.

Riverfront Roar – Marietta. Powerboat Superleague racing returns July 10 -12, along the Ohio River levee in downtown Marietta. Riverfront Roar begins Friday, July 10 with a chance to meet the race crews during the Merchants and Artists Walk. Later that evening from 10 p.m. to midnight, performers will battle it out for the top prize in “Roar’s Got Talent.” Saturday begins with the Run for the Roar 5K in the morning followed by the qualifying races beginning around noon. Live music and a night firework display will serve as the evening’s entertainment. Sunday features a Pioneer Corvette Club Car Show open to all makes and models and the Superleague finals. FREE! Microsoft Office Classes – Heath. Beginning July 16, the Licking County Library is offering a series of FREE Microsoft Office Basics classes from 1:00-3:00 p.m. every Thursday through July 30th in the Indian Mound Mall food court. Classes will cover Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Basics respectively. These classes are free, but registration is required. Call 740-349-5553 to register.

Lake Tour of Homes Buckeye Lake. Low water levels have turned the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association’s annual Lake Tour of Homes into a walking tour. The tour is set for Sunday, August 9, and starts at the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. The walking tour takes approximately two hours and will cover two miles along the sidewalk on the Buckeye Lake dam. Seven homes built along the dam are featured. Tours start at noon with the last tour leaving at 2 p.m. Limited tickets are available at $25 and must be purchased in advance. The Pajama Game- Newark. Weathervane Playhouse presents The Pajama Game: 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2; Friday, July 3; Saturday, July 4, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Tuesday, July 7; Wednesday, July 8; Thursday. July 9; Friday. July 10; and Saturday. July 11. Join the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory workers as they unite for a strike! In the midst of the battle over fair wages, love blossoms between the head of the grievance committee, Babe Williams, and the new superintendent, Sid Sorokin.
