Dawes Arboretum Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Wetland Chronicles: Southward Sojourners- Saturday, November 3, 8 – 10 a.m. Heading for warmer temperatures and plentiful food supplies, waterfowl are winging their way back to their southern “home.” We’ll have an invigorating early morning walk to look for birds and talk about their remarkable travels. $5/members free, reservation required, meet at the Dutch Fork Wetlands, located on White Chapel Rd.

Wonderful Waterfowl: Dabblers, Divers and Sawbills- Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m. – noon, Jim McCormac is by far an expert in the field of ornithology and is an Avian Education Specialist for the ODNR, Division of Wildlife. This talk will use many colorful images to look at the overall picture of Ohio’s intriguing waterfowl, delve into interesting facts about them and explore identificationissues. The program concludes with a trip to the Dutch Fork Wetlands to seek out some of these magnificent creatures. $15/$10 members, reservation required, meet at the Visitors Center.

Halloween Fun – Devine Farms, Hebron. Last weekend for halloween fun on the farm. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. Buy pumpkins and visit the gift shop seven days a week. U.S. 40 between Ohio 37 and Ohio 79. More information at www.devinefarms.com.

Licking Township Fire Company’s Haunted HouseFranklin Township, 11125 Flintridge Road. Get scared by professionals – firefightersthat is. Open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights for three weekends through Oct. 27. Admission Friday nights is a nonperishable food donation that will be donated to the St. Johns Lutheran and Jacksontown United Methodist Church food pantries. Admission Saturday nights is $5 per person.

Red Barn of Horror Buckeye Lake. Public is welcome at the ‘haunted’ barn on the KOA Kampground on Ohio 79 in Buckeye Lake. Open Friday and Saturday nights from 7 – 10 p.m. Admission is $10. Children under 12 are $6. For more information call (740) 928-0706.

Haunted Garage Hebron. Stop by 120 N. 8th St. in Hebron from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 31. Free and open to the public.

Drive-Thru Haunted Park Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. It’s bigger, better and longer this year. Bring the whole family out to Infirmary Mound Park on Ohio 37 for the Licking Park District’s spooktacular Drive-Thru Haunted Park October 24-27. No more standing in line, cold and hungry. You can purchase warm food and drinks as you wait in the comfort of your own vehicle for your turn to be scared. Ghosts, ghouls and goblins will emerge under the cover of darkness to celebrate Halloween. Who knows what creatures lurk behind the trees, bushes and shelter houses of Infirmary Mound Park? Find out for yourself, if you dare! This is family oriented event. Hours are 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $20 per car. Boo at the Zoo Columbus. This haunting Halloween celebration offers candy stations, storytellers, magicians, a haunted train ride, and other thrilling activities. Don’t miss Pumpkin Smash on Oct. 27, when animals throughout the zoo will be presented with pumpkins as part of the zoo’s enrichment program. How to Help a Sexual Assault Survivor: What Men Can Do Denison University, Granville. Sometimes violence hits too close to home. One in Four, a group of college-age men who travel the country discussing the battle against sexual violence, will speak at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, in the Burton Morgan Lecture Hall (150 Ridge Road). The lecture is free and open to the public.

Transient and Enduring Spatial Knowledge Denison University, Granville. David Waller, an assistant professor of psychology at Miami University, Oxford, will lead a psychology colloquium at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, in Higley Auditorium (100 Ridge Road). Waller’s research interests aim to understand how people perceive and remember spatial information about large-scale environments. The event is free and open to the public.

Homeschool Explorations, Stellar Navigators Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Join Denison University Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy Dan Homan as he leads us on a telescopic journey of the night sky at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6. Learn to use a telescope, findthe most common stars and constella tions, and learn a little folklore in the process. Dress for the weather. Plenty of hot chocolate will be available. Saints and Sinners Dension University, Granville. Denison University faculty members Tony Lisska and Fred Porcheddu will speak on Saints and Sinners, Maidens and Monsters, Philosophy and Phlogiston: Medieval Texts and their Influence at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, in the Great Room of the Granville Inn (314 E. Broadway). The lecture is free and open to the public.

Fiction writer Kevin Mc- Ilvoy Denison University, Granville. The Harriet Ewens Beck Visiting Writers Series at Denison University presents fiction writer Kevin McIlvoy at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Barney-Davis Board Room (200 West Loop). McIlvoy has published four novels, most recently Hyssop and Little Peg. His 2005 collection of short stories, The Complete History of New Mexico, includes stories that have appeared in Harper’s, Tri-Quarterly and Ploughshares. Free and open to the public.

Book Signing Newark Public Library. Connie L. Rutter and Sondra Brockway Gartner will be signing Images of America: Licking County at 2 p.m. on November 4. Rutter and Gartner wrote the book to celebrate Licking County’s bicentennial in 2008. It features photos and stories from each township in Licking County. During the book signing, the authors will share photos and stories not included in the final publication. Images of America: Licking County will be for sale for $19.99 plus tax at the event. All proceeds from book sales will benefit the Licking County Bicentennial Commission. Newark Public Library will also debut its own publication Six Cents and a Raccoon’s Tale: A Collection of Short Anecdotes from 19th Century Newark and Licking County as re-told by Dan Fleming and illustrated by Russell Merritt at the book signing.
