Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Maple Syrup Madness- Thru March 10. Saturday public tours 2 p.m., Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays 1 to 4 p.m., It’s here, that time of year when we tap the sugar maples and indulge in the sugary goodness of maple syrup! Discover how sap is collected and processed to produce this scrumptious treat as you walk the self guided trail. End your journey at the Log Cabin where sap is boiled down and all are given a delicious sample of homemade syrup. FREE, meet at the Log Cabin.

The March Hare – Newark. Join Chris Baker from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the William C. Kraner Nature Center, as she takes you on a journey of the Eastern Cottontail Rabbit. Live domestic rabbit for your petting enjoyment. $3 per individual or $10 per family.

Central Ohio Home & Garden Show – Columbus. The gardens are redesigned this year with a new format and themed to incorporate a party atmosphere! The show is renowned for its breathtaking live gardens, HGTV talent appearances, cooking demonstrations and interactive home and garden features and more than 400 exhibitors and attractions. Through March 4, at the Ohio Expo Center. Show hours are: Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Tuesday-Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door for adults with special $10 admission after 5 p.m. every day. Backyard Gardening Classes – Newark. Newark Library will continue a series of backyard gardening classes for beginners with four sessions in the month of March led by volunteers from the Master Gardeners program. The classes welcome gardeners of all levels of experience, but will focus on basic, sustainable practices that can be used by anyone, anywhere. Topics to be covered include: Growing Vegetables 101 with Paula McDonald on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 pm; Seed Starting with Carol Edmister on Saturday, March 17 at 1 pm; Growing Tomatoes with Dick Baltisberger on March 22 at 6:30 pm; and Composting and Soil Composition with Bob Wulhforst on Saturday, March 31 at 1 pm. The first session will be held in the library’s second floor confer- ence room. All other sessions will take place in Meeting Room B at the Newark Library. Baked Steak Dinner – Buckeye Lake. Stop by the Buckeye Lake Fire Station from 4 – 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, for a delicious baked steak dinner. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children/seniors. Carryout is available by calling 740-928-3473.

Fundraising Webinars for Nonprofits – Newark. Licking County Library will host two live Foundation Center webinars in March at the Newark Library, 101 West Main Street, Newark. “Introduction to Finding Funders” is set for 1 – 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 8. Participants will learn how to find funders using the Foundation Directory Online and how to create targeted lists to match their organization’s needs. “Introduction to Fundraising Planning” is on Wednesday, March 14, from 1- 2 p.m. The webinar will provide an overview of the components of a fundraising plan, including how to conduct assets inventories, identify funding partners, and prepare a fundraising plan and calendar. The webinars will be presented and moderated online by Foundation Center staff. Participants may stay after the webinars to explore Foundation Directory Online and other Foundation Center resources available at the Newark Library’s grant collection with the assistance of a reference librarian. Free Computer Training- Newark. March computer classes are forming now! Licking County Library and Connect Ohio offer six hours of free introductory coursework to help adults understand the basics of computers, the Internet, and the benefits of broadband. Students who complete all three classes are eligible for incentives from various broadband providers in the area. Teen Games Night – Buckeye Lake. Join us at the new Buckeye Lake Library from 5 – 6 p.m. on the first Monday of every month for Teen Games Night. There will be a variety of games for teens in grades 6-12 to play plus snacks.

Free AutoCAD Workshop – Newark. Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) will host a free AutoCAD (computer aided drafting) workshop on Thursday, March 8, from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of the design program. Becky Warthman Memorial Benefit Dinner – Buckeye Lake. Come out for food, fun and a good cause from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Buckeye Lake. Proceeds benefit the Warthman Children Education Fund. Pasta dinner with family bingo from 4-6 p.m., silent auction, dessert auction, family fun and games, plus a “Buckeye Lake has Talent” show at 6:30 p.m. Donations and items for the auctions are encouraged; please call Stacey Hoffman at 740-398-0084.

“Java & Jazz” Benefit Auction – Newark. This entertaining fundraiser for the Mental Health America of Licking County features coffee, adult beverages, live jazz music from the Tom Carroll Duo, sweet and savory foods, and silent and live auctions from 7 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at The Reese Center, OSU-N/ COTC Newark Campus. Thornville Elementary 5K – Thornville. The third annual Thornville Elementary 5K sets off at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, at the school. T-shirts are available on race day and guaranteed for all registered by March 6, with pre/post race refreshments. Music

Works of Haydn – Newark. The University Chorus at the Ohio State University at Newark will present a program of choral works by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1890) and his brother, Johann Michael Haydn (1737- 1806), at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 9, in Founders Auditorium on the Ohio State Newark campus. The Lyric String Quartet -Sharon Blaydes, Terri Boselli, Diana Jones, and Virginia Workman – along with violinist, Olivia Johnson, will join the ensemble for a performance of F.J. Haydn’s Missa Brevis No. 7 in B-flat, also known as the Kleine Orgelmesse (little organ mass). The concert is free and open to the public.
