Dawes Arboretum

Night Hike-
Friday, Jan. 15, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, Free, donations welcome, meet at the Visitors Center Deck. Experience The Arboretum at night! Kids and adults are welcome to attend one of our most popular programs as we hike through collections, grasslands and woodlands.

An Easy Dozen: Trees to Recognize

in Winter-
Saturday Jan. 23, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, $5 for all—a mid–winter special! Reservation required, meet at the Visitors Center, Crown, bark, buds, twigs, dead leaves, leftover fruits, and growth patterns—all provide clues to help unmask the identity of a dormant tree. Whether you’re seeking a source of firewood, planning a garden, or looking for a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, this class will give you the tools you need to tackle identification of trees in winter.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. Call 740-323-2355 or 800-44-DAWES for information or visit www. dawesarb.org.

Audio Downloading Class
Newark.
The Newark Library will host two classes about downloading audio items like audiobooks, music, videos and ebooks from the new SEO Consortium catalog. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30 pm and on Wednesday, January 27th at 2:00 pm. The program will be held in the second floor conference room of the Newark Library. These classes are free of charge but registration is required. A valid Licking County Library card is required. For more information, contact the library at 740.349.5553.

Great Vacations EXPO
Columbus.

The AAA Great Vacations EXPO takes place January 22-24, 2010 at Franklin County Veterans Memorial in downtown Columbus. Show hours are Friday 2-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 or $4 for AAA members and are available at the door or at any AAA Ohio Auto Club store and online at AAAGreatVacations. com. Pancake Breakfast
– Thurston.

The Thurston-Walnut Township Fire Department will hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, January 16 at 8474 High Street, from 8 a.m. noon. Suggested donations are $5 for adults and $3 for children. The menu is sausage, pancakes, eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits, orange juice, coffee, tea, and milk. Carry-out orders are welcomed; call 740-862-6542.

Firefighters will answer your questions about smoke/CO detectors, blood pressure, diabetic sugar checks, medication lists, and other questions you may have. They will also be taking orders for Tshirts and reflective address signs, which aid the firefighters in locating you in the event of an emergency.
