Dawes Arboretum

Evergreen Identification-
Saturday Nov. 14, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., meet at the Auditorium, $12/$10 members. Conifers are a diverse and colorful group of plants. Being able to distinguish and identify different species is highly rewarding and can also be quite fun. Let Dawes Conifer Curator Jeff Bowman take you through some easy steps in distinguishing between many common conifers that we encounter in Ohio ecosystems and landscapes.

Marine Corps Birthday
Celebration
– Buckeye Lake.
All Marines are invited to the annual Birthday Celebration from 8- 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Buckeye Lake Eagles, 3240 Walnut Road (Ohio 79). An Eagle membership is not necessary. Spend some time with fellow Marines.

Veterans Honors ceremony
– Newark. The 13th annual Veterans Honors ceremony will take place at Zerger Hall Senior Center, 745 E. Main St., at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Gary Jones, a board member of the Licking County Veterans Services Commission, will be the guest speaker. He is a Vietnam War veteran who returns to Southeast Asia annually to search for the remains of missing service personnel. The reading of the Roll Call of Honors will contain the names of service members who died in military action, or who served and have since passed away. Anyone who wishes to have a name included in the reading can call the Licking County Aging Program at 345-0821 or 1-800-452-0097. The event should last a half-hour and refreshments will be served at the conclusion. The public is invited to attend.

The Best Christmas Pageant

Ever
– Millersport.
Millersport Community Theatre proudly presents “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Nov. 13 and 14 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before show time at the Millersport United Methodist Church, 2310 Refugee Street. Golden Dragon Acrobats
– Newark.
The Golden Dragons are recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. As part of The Midland Theatre’s Family Series sponsored by The Energy Cooperative, The Golden Dragon Acrobats appear at The Midland Theatre, 36 North Park Place, Newark, on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25, $20, $17.50, $12.50 and $10. Mobile Lab Computer

Licking County Library is offering a series of interactive computer classes on a mobile computer lab during the week of November 16. An Introduction to the Internet will be offered Tuesday, November 17th at 1:00 pm, and Wednesday, November 18th, at 10:30 am. Search engine workshops will be held Tuesday, November 17th, at 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 18th at 12:00 pm, and Thursday, November 19th, at 3:30 pm. An online database workshop is offered Thursday, November 19th, at 2:00 pm. Registration is required and space is limited. ‘My Grandfather’s War’
– The Works, Newark.
Licking County author, Jeff Danby will give an illustrated lecture titled: “My Grandfather’s War,” on Sunday, Nov. 8 at The Works in downtown Newark. The lecture will begin at 2:00 p.m. and last about 45 minutes. A questions period and book-signing will follow. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children, which includes access to the entire museum complex for the day. Members of The Works are admitted free. Danby is the author of the WWII non-fiction book: “Day of the Panzer: A Story of American Heroism and Sacrifice in Southern France.” His book will be available for purchase at the event. Sunday’s lecture will focus on Danby’s grandfather’s war experiences in Southern France. The author will also explain how he researched the book and got it published.

The next lecture features Ohio author Aaron Keirns on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The title of the lecture: “Honoring the Veterans of Licking County, Ohio,” is also the title of a new book coauthored by Keirns and his son, Nathan Keirns. Harlem Wizards

See the Lakewood staff take on the Harlem Wizards at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 in the Lakewood High School gym. Proceeds benefit the JIS PTO.
