Saturday Nov. 14, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., meet at the Auditorium, $12/$10 members. Conifers are a diverse and colorful group of plants. Being able to distinguish and identify different species is highly rewarding and can also be quite fun. Let Dawes Conifer Curator Jeff Bowman take you through some easy steps in distinguishing between many common conifers that we encounter in Ohio ecosystems and landscapes.

• Oct. 28 through 31: Drive Thru Haunted Park, Infirmary Mound Park, Experience it for yourself if you dare! The event, now in its 14th year is a perennial favorite among visitors. Who or what will scare you this year? You won’t know unless you join us for this hauntingly unique event. No matter what creatures we call from beyond, rest assured you will be safe and dry as you tour the scenes in the comfort of your own vehicle. Hours are 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There is a $20 fee per vehicle. Park Express Members receive free admission! This is a family oriented event; however some scenes may not be suitable for very young children. If you would like to volunteer please call (740) 587-2535.

• Nov. 7: Under the Red Coats, William C. Kraner Nature Center, Sat, November 7, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. The year is 1777 and the Colonial Militia is fighting for our independence and we are left tending the home front. Learn through hands-on crafts, activities and more how those left at home dealt with military occupation during a look at the American Revolution. Who knows we may even have a surprise guest or two! Harlem Wizards

See the Lakewood staff take on the Harlem Wizards at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 in the Lakewood High School gym. Proceeds benefit the JIS PTO. Advance tickets are $8 for students/ seniors and $10 for adults. Prices are $2 higher at the door. Online ticketing is available. Visit for the link. Music

Jazz Guitar Festival
– Denison
University, Granville.
Denison University will hold its 13th Annual Jazz Guitar Festival on the weekend of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, in the Recital Hall and Rehearsal Room at Burke Hall (240 West Broadway). Festival events include concerts, clinics and demonstrations, and all events are free and open to the public. The Festival will begin on Saturday, Oct. 31, with clinics and demos from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Burke Rehearsal Room. That evening, featured artists The Hot Club of Nashville will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Burke Recital Hall; the Denison faculty duo of Tom Carroll and Andy Carlson also will appear. On Sunday, Nov. 1, the festivities will wrap up with a grand finale concert by the Rick Peckham Trio at 4 p.m. in Burke Recital Hall. Various festival clinicians also will perform for the finale.
