Dawes Arboretum – Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Bonsai Show- Saturday, June 13, 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Free, at the Visitors Center. The Dawes Arboretum invites you to experience the art of bonsai at the 29th Ohio Regional Bonsai Show. Free demonstrations go on throughout the weekend. More than 100 bonsai specimens are displayed in the Firelight Room and Bonsai Courtyard for viewing. Whether you are inclined to start your own bonsai or if you are an old pro looking for supplies, be sure to visit the vendor area on the Visitors Center Deck.

Strut with Your Pup- Saturday, June 20, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m, Free, Visitors Center. Join in the fun as we hit the trails with our pooch pals for an energizing stroll through some of our beautiful collections and trails. This will be an opportunity to talk about why your dog needs to stay on trails and why you shouldn’t let Fido whiz on the conifers. All well-behaved dogs are welcome. Arboretum Education Director Sara Lowe and her dog, Louie, will lead the strut..

Licking Park District Licking County. Don’t miss these Licking Park District event:

• Land of Legend Woodcarvers Spring Show- Sat, June 6, 10 a.m .- 4 p.m. Infirmary Mound Park, James Bradley Center, Ohio 37, Granville. Join the Land of Legend Woodcarvers, in cooperation with the Licking Park District, as they present their annual Spring Wood Carving Show. Marvel at the intricate carvings; learn what tools to use and even purchase a piece or two to add to your collection. This show is always a crowd pleaser and one not to be missed. Free admission.

• Le Tour de T.J. Evans Bike Trail – Summer is upon us and Licking Park District Chief Park Ranger, Ryan Peterson, loves to ride his bicycle on the trails. However, he doesn’t like to ride alone. To combat his loneliness Ranger Ryan is inviting everyone to join him for a ride along the T.J. Evans Bike Trail, on Saturday, June 27th beginning at 9:00 a.m. A brief bicycle safety and maintenance program will be offered before the start of the ride. Ranger Ryan will go over bicycle types, gears, safety equipment and basic bike maintenance that you can do yourself to keep your bike in top shape. After the program, participants can enjoy a leisurely round trip bike ride between Granville and Johnstown on the scenic and historic T.J. Evans Bike Trail. A stop for ice cream in Granville will be well deserved at the end of the ride. Registration deadline is June 1st. The ride is open to participants of all ages. The fee is $10 for non-members and $8 for Park Express Members. The fee includes a collector’s edition I rode with Ranger Ryan t-shirt. The starting point is the T.J. Granville Art Affair – Granville. A new, juried fine arts show debuts in Licking County on Sunday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn of the Bryn Du Mansion. Over 50 artists from Ohio and several surrounding states will feature their work including; oil & acrylics, clay, watercolor, fiber, metal, drawing & pastels, glass, wood, 3D media, photography, jewelry and other fine art. Live entertainment featuring Celts Crossing, children’s art area, polo match, fine food and wine tasting are also planned for this family event. ADMISSION IS FREE! Puppet Pallooza – Hebron. Hebron Library will host the Puppet Pallooza team from the Children’s Department of the Main Library in Newark. This fun puppet show is free and children of all ages are invited. Marvelous Magic with Dave Lehman – Newark. Join us at the Newark Library for Dave Lehman’s Marvelous Magic Show! Doom-Ta-Ka Children’s Drum Circle with Hakan Kaya – Newark. Join us on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. for “Doom-Ta-Ka Children’s Drum Circle with Hakan Kaya, ” at the Newark Library. Come listen to the magical sound of the storytelling drums. Bring your own drum or anything you want to play, or use the drums that Hakan brings (limited number). Fun for the whole family! “Labs in Life” – COSI. Columbus’ Center of Science and Industry, is the nation’s first example of an active, working research laboratory in a science museum. The exhibit features three research labs behind large plate-glass windows that will be used for studies focusing on physical activity, nutrition and body composition. Visitors will see Ohio State University faculty members and students as they conduct studies and gather data. In some cases, visitors will be able to participate in the research themselves.
