Thanks to firefighters, others for help with hay bale fire

I would like to thank all the firefighters that arrived on Sunday, August 29, to control a large hay bale fire consisting of 96 bales approximately 1,000 lbs. each.

I believe the units were Licking Township Fire Company, Thornville-Thorn Township, Glenford and Gratiot with 25 to 30 firefighters.

I wanted to especially thank Fire Chief Mike Wilson of Licking Township Fire Company and its volunteers for their continued assistance long after the fire broke out. They continued to check on the fire and put water on it for days after the fire started.

A special thanks to Dave Vermillon and Jim Wilson for the days they spent controlling the smoldering hay. Thanks to Licking Township road supervisor Steve Patterson for operating the back-hoe on Sunday.

I also want to thank the seven farmers that have offered to share their hay for me to use this winter.

I am proud to live in this community that has so many caring people and I pray that their type will always make up this community. Thanks again.
