Serving all the communities of the Buckeye Lake Region

Thanks from the Grand Marshal

Editor,

I would like to thank the Millersport Lions Club for honoring me as the Grand Marshal for the 68th Annual Sweet Corn Festival Parade. When I received the letter announcing my selection, I couldn’t believe it. It was very humbling and I felt honored to have been chosen.

However, I didn’t think I was old enough to even be selected. I have been a supporter of the Festival since 1974 when my husband, Tim and I built our home just down the street from the Festival grounds. Our garage and house has stored supplies for many booths at the Festival, even gold fish for the Girl Scouts. When it turned cold they kept jumping out. Babysitting gold fish was the worst volunteer job I ever did .

I feel blessed to be a part of the Millersport Community and volunteering is something I can do. My parents were involved with the Etna Lions Club. They had a booth at the Festival when it was held on Main Street. I started then and have continued to support it all these years. Guess I am old enough…

I want to thank my Millersport United Methodist Church family, American Legion Post, Auxiliary Unit 637, Walnut Township Schools, Senior Citizen Groups, TWIG 13, Modern Mother’s Club, Watkins Memorial High School Alumni, friends and family for all the cards and notes congratulating me on being Grand Marshal.

Thank you to Tammy DeRosier, the American Legion Auxiliary 8th District President, for passing out candy for me during the parade and a very special thank you to my family for the beautiful flowers and for riding on the float. Last, but not least, my heartfelt thanks to all the Lions Club members for the (VIP) Parade- Queens Dinner and VIP passes for both of the concerts. I was finally able to really see and enjoy everything at the Festival and I had a lot fun. It was an experience I will never forget. Most of all, I want to thank God for the beautiful weather and no rain during the entire festival. It was truly an amazing four days.

We have the greatest Lions Club and Festival in the State of Ohio. The Lions work very hard all year to make it possible for a multitude of organizations to come and earn money for their many projects. Be sure to thank a Lion’s Club member and keep volunteering in the Millersport Community.

Thank you to The Beacon for the many articles about the Sweet Corn Festival. You are truly a blessing to Millersport and the Buckeye Lake area.
