Thanks for boats and cars on the canal in Millersport

The Antique and Classic Boat Society extends a hearty thank you to everyone involved in the planning and execution of the June 19 boat and car show along the Millersport Canal. This event was made possible through countless hours of work by volunteers who planned and met for almost a year.

Special thanks to Shawn Carter and the Millersport Lions Club, Fire Chief Bill Yates and fire department personnel, Millersport Police Chief John Shirk and officers, Millersport Village Council, Millersport merchants, The Buckeye Lake Museum, Ed Levison , and Howard Clark.

Kudos to the boat committee and everyone at NorthPoint Island because without their assistance and support Saturday’s event would not have been possible. Boat and car exhibitors deserve many thanks for bringing their cars and boats for the public to enjoy; most participants stayed the entire day answering questions and interacting with the crowd. A fun time was had by all who braved the heat and attended the first boat and car show on the canal.

Boat awards were presented to the winners at a reception at NorthPoint Island. The following boats/awards were given: Most Original/Best Preserved was awarded to Chad Englehart for a 1964 Chris Craft (Blondie), Best Post-War Utility was awarded to Jeff Runkle for a 1961 Chris Craft (Peaches), Best Post- War Runabout was awarded to Bill Schottenstein for a 1948 Chris Craft (Will’s Auld Boat), Skipper’s Choice Award was awarded to Don Bauer for a 1988 Morgan Hacker Craft (Burnin’ Wood), People’s Choice Award went to Dave and Ann Levacy for a 1959 Chris Craft (Annie), Best Lyman was awarded to Steve Schilling for a 1970 Lyman (Lybation), Best Century was awarded to Mike Smith for a 1958 Century (Termite’s Delight), Best Chris Craft was awarded to Sylvia Chappell for a 1947 Chris Craft (Chappell Belle), Best Pre-War Runabout was awarded to Bob Whited for a 1929 Meteor (Beemer), and best outboard was awarded to Dean DeRolph for a 1959 Glastron with a Mercury 60 HP engine.

A special Youth Award was presented to Ed and Drew Wolfe. This award is given each year to a youth(s) who has shown special interest in wood boats. Congratulations to the next generation of wooden boat lovers and enthusiasts.

Again, a huge THANK YOU to everyone involved!
