HEBRON – Retired U.S. Army Major James Mooney of Columbus told the small crowd at the Evans Park Veterans Memorial that he was proud to be born in the greatest nation in the world. “There is no place like the United States of America.”
Mooney said a diverse population is united for freedom. The annual ceremony included a presentation of wreathes from the Hebron American Legion Post and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1388.
The American Legion provided the firing squad for the traditional 21- gun salute followed by taps. VFW Post 1388 provided the color guard for the ceremony.
Veterans Memorial committee member Jim Layton recognized Donna Braig of Buckeye Lake as the “driving force” behind the project to honor service members from the Hebron school. Seven made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
