Ted H. Torrence




Ted H. Torrence, age 83, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away January 17, 2014. Ted was born on September 30, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, to Henry and Altje Torrence.

He grew up in Baltimore, and graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1949. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving 23 years, including combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the highest enlisted rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt).

On October 26, 1956, Ted exchanged wedding vows with June Elizabeth Loomis. Together they were blessed with two sons and three grandchildren. Ted retired and moved to Arizona were he found joy in many hobbies including the Flying Wheels Motorcycle Club, Ham Radio Club, and sailing. Ted leaves with all those who knew him many wonderful memories.

He is survived by his loving wife June; two wonderful sons and their families, Chris (wife Jenny, son Michael) and John (wife Angelina, sons Kyle and Eric); sisters, Salle Speaks (Lyle) and Nancy Crist (DeVaughn); brother, Colin Weaver (Beverly); and many friends. Ted will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

An Arizona memorial service will be held Tuesday February 18, 2014 at 5:30pm located at Sunland Mortuary 15826 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, Arizona. A second memorial is being scheduled for early summer in Baltimore. Ted’s final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
