Still time to apply for Buckeye Lake council, write-in candidate status

Editor:

The Buckeye Lake Village Council is comprised of seven members. The terms of four council members will expire at the end of this year and newly elected members will be decided at the November 3 General Election.

Only two candidates (Arletta Ruton and Robert Masone) have filed a petition to be named on the ballot and that deadline has passed. However, there is still time to apply for a seat on council as a write-in candidate if the necessary paperwork is filed by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, at the Licking County Board of Elections.

The names of the write-in candidates will not appear on the ballot – they must be written in by the voters. A list of writein candidates will be available at the polls only upon request.

Write-in candidates do not have to circulate a petition but they must file Form No. 13: Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In Candidate and pay a $30 filing fee. You must be at least 18 years old as of the date of the election and a qualified elector (registered voter) of the village one year immediately preceding the election.

Due to a recent resignation on council, there is also a current seat open that runs through 2017. Council has 30 days to appoint a qualified candidate. Applications are available at the village office and should be submitted by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25.
