Slain police chief to be honored

COLUMBUS-The Senate passed legislation this week, sponsored by State Senator Jay Hottinger (R-Newark), honoring fallen Kirkersville Police Chief, Steven Eric DiSario of Salem, Ohio.

Senate Bill 173 would designate a portion of U.S. Route 40 in Licking County as the “Steven Eric DiSario Memorial Highway.”

“The tragic deaths of Chief DiSario, Marlina Medrano and Cindy Krantz are still felt in Kirkersville and throughout Licking County,” said Senator Hottinger. “I am thankful that today the Ohio Senate took a giant step towards permanently memorializing the sacrifice of Chief DiSario.”

On May 12, 2017, Chief DiSario was shot and killed after responding to reports of a man with a gun near the Pine Kirk Care Center in Licking County. The shooter went on to kill two nursing home employees before taking his own life.
