Sheridan committee starting brick sales



SOMERSET – The Nellie Sheridan Heritage Committee started taking orders this week for memorial bricks personalized by Columbus Momument, They are available at Rosie Red’s and from committee members. Prices are $60 for a 4×8 and $200 for an 8×8.

The committee has raised nearly $30,000 of the $40,000 needed to place a full-size bronze statue of Nellie Sheridan on Somerset Square. The group hopes to raise the final $10,000 by the end of 2018.

An Octoberfest yard sale in Nina Reichley’s yard netted more than $500 for the statute. Rita Crossan donated the proceeds from 50 or so delicious homemade apple dumplings added more to the fund.

Another success was Caroline Wilson’s October 21, cemetery walk at the Holy Trinity and Somerset cemeteries. Local historians, Rob Dishon and Beth Santore brought both cemetery artifacts and photographs to educate the crowd about gravestone symbolism and lore surrounding the evolution of American graveyards. Breakfast was served at the Legion Hall by Sue Noll, Lori Dalrymple and Sharon Olive to start the festivities.
