HEBRON – Hebron Elementary secretary Melissa Harkness wasn’t surprised that everything was smooth sailing Wednesday morning as students arrived for their first day of the new school year. “We just had the first and second grade today,” she said. “Monday, the kindergarten starts.”
Mostly smiles greeted teachers and bus drivers early on a clear, cool day as everyone said goodbye to a long, hot summer.
Around the lake, both Lakewood and Walnut Township schools shared Wednesday as their first day of classes, whereby Northern Local and Liberty Union- Thurston schools began a week earlier, Aug. 15.
