Reverend George Henry Gordon, Sr.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Reverend George Henry Gordon, Sr., age 89, of Hebron, was held February 7, 2018, at The Church of God at God’s Acres, Newark, with Brother R. L. Decker and Brother Jim Pressley officiating. Burial followed in Wilson Cemetery.

Rev. Gordon passed away February 4, 2018, at Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 3, 1929, in Thornport, to the late John Edwin and Elsie Mae “Sally” (Hoover) Gordon.

He was very skilled cement mason and concrete finisher as well as a qualified auto mechanic, plumber and electrician. George graduated The Ohio State College of Barber Styling.

He was a faithful member of The Church of God at God’s Acres. George’s faith led him to spread the gospel for nearly 60 years all over the world, including places such as Honduras and Africa. It was here he helped build churches for these communities. He collected many African artifacts from his travels.

Rev. Gordon worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 28 years before retiring in 1983. After retirement he worked with the McDonalds Corporation for six years. He was a graduate of Hebron High School. Of all his accomplishments, the most important thing was his family.

He is survived by his children, a daughter, Mary Lou (Gary) Gant of Hebron; three sons, Gary (Maggie) Gordon of Mt. Perry, Daniel (Ginger) Gordon of Palmetto, Florida and Joel (Kim) Gordon of Somerset; and 96 grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice R. Gordon (2017); two sons, George Gordon, Jr. and Timothy Gordon; a brother,

John Edwin Gordon; and three sisters, Mary Gockenbach, Vivian Stickle and Shirley Burdette

Memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to The Church of God at God’s Acres or to Generation Hospice, 26 Westmoor Avenue, Newark, Ohio
