Phyllis Ruth (Steinmetz) Wright

Phyllis Ruth (Steinmetz) Wright of Baltimore passed into the arms of our Lord Jesus on Jan. 6, 2010, at The Pickering House, Lancaster, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 11, 1942 to William F. and Ruth O. Steinmetz in Columbus. Phyllis graduated from Bloom Carroll High School and was employed at Jeffery Manufacturing, Honda East, the Ohio Student Aid Commission, and retired from Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation in 2008. She was a member of Lancaster Community Church. Phyllis showed God’s love to everyone she met and lived life to the fullest. Her greatest enjoyments came from spending time with her family and friends and giving gifts.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Melissa (Andy) Sponseller; three grandchildren who were the light of her life, Alison, Charlie and Rachel Sponseller; sister, Eloise (Stanley) Mertz; brother, William (Sandra) Steinmetz; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special friends, including countless “second kids”, wonderful neighbors and her dinner club ladies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Wright; and her parents.

Services were held Jan. 9, 2010 at Lancaster Community Church, with Pastor Ron Grubb officiating. Burial was in Basil Memorial Cemetery, Baltimore.

Memorials may be made to The Pickering House or the American Cancer Society.
