A skydiver unfurls the American flagduring opening ceremonies last Saturday morning at the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends at Rickenbacker International Airport. The reunion/ air show marked the P-51 Mustang’s 65th year in combat history. The P-51 was the primary American fighter plane during World War II. Below the U. S. Air Force’s newest fighter, the F-22 Raptor, makes a heritage flight with three P-51’s. The F-22 is described as a stealth air superiority fighter that also has ground attack capabilities. It has been in service since December 2005 and was making its first Ohio air show appearance. P-51’s also flewheritage flights with the U. S. Air Force’s F-15 Eagle and F-16 Viper.
