Panic incitement is irresponsible

Editor:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ODNR did a very good job of blindsiding all of us who live in this area last week with their very calculated announcement on plans for the Buckeye Lake Dam. None of the residents were notified before the media blitz occurred.

How irresponsible of them to incite panic in this area by making it sound as though the dam was going to give way any minute. One thing they should have mentioned is that the water level is still low and mostly covered with ice. So the notion of an eight foot wallof water is stretching.

But they go what they wanted. The wanted the public to go for the least logical solution, simply based on their perception of what was said. The TV and print news continue to do the Corps and ODNR’s bidding by only reporting what these agencies want them to give to the public. The media has a responsibility to dig for the truth and ask why these agencies are using scare tactics. Where have these agencies been for the past year, let alone the past 20 years, when everyone has known for a long time that the dam needs work? Does there need to be a fix, you bet, but their handling of this situation is shady at best.

Why keep emphasizing only the draining option to the public when other options are also listed in the report? If this is such an imminent danger, why are there no plans to immediately evacuate the area?

Shame on the media for not digging into this further to answer the above questions and only continuing to spout the rhetoric that these agencies want the public to hear?

Does the State really want to economically destroy this area. Are they that irresponsible with no forethought as to the economic impact his will have on many thousands of people?

What is the truth in this matter?

Who benefits the most by the draining of the lake?

As always, there is a hidden agenda somewhere. Find out who is going to benefit themost if this lake and surrounding communities are destroyed and we may find the truth.
