Our veterans have faced much worse problems than we do now

On Memorial Day as I was listening to Pastor Brian Vinson pay homage to veterans and family, I wondered about our current state of affairs in our country. I thought about the Civil War, Spanish- American War, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Gulf veterans. Are we in worse shape in our era as they were in theirs?

What are we afraid of? Is our situation worse than Gettysburg in 1863? Is is worse than San Juan Hill in 1898? Is it worse than Belleau Woods in 1917? D-Day in 1944? Chosin Reservoir 1950? Tet of 1968? I think not.

Our deceased veterans would be ashamed of us and the petty bickering between our political parties. They would tell us to get up, dust ourselves off and make the sacrifices and choices necessary to correct the problems we face. Surely, the sacrifices we would have to make are small compared to that of giving your life. That has always been and will always be our strongest asset as a nation – we will do what needs to be done for the greater good.

I would like to thank Troop 404 and their parents for trimming and making the cemetery a place of community pride. A special thanks goes to Cora, Nikki and Olivia Osborne for placing the white crosses on the veterans’ graves. Also, thank Mike Bergum for cutting and assembling the 21 crosses and Troop 404 for painting them. This is a great place to live and the best kept secret in Central Ohio.
