Operation Christmas Child
Two members of the Joy Bible Class at the First Community Church of Buckeye Lake pack gift shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. Operation Christmas Child sends shoebox gifts to millions of children around the world, from war torn countries to areas hit by natural disasters. Shoeboxes are assembled for boys and girls and in three age ranges – two to four years, fiveto nine and 10 – 14. Each shoebox contains a variety of items, including toys, hygiene products, hard candies and gum and school supplies. First Community is serving as a Relay Center again this year, accepting fillshoebox gifts Nov. 12 – 18. Collection hours are: Monday, Nov. 12 thru Friday, Nov. 16 – 5 – 8 p.m.; Saturday Nov. 17 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 18 – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Last year the Joy Bible Class filled 400 shoeboxes. Boxes should not include used or damaged items; anything war-related like toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolates or food; liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items; or aerosol cans. Cash donations of $5 or more per box are sought to help cover shipping and other costs.
