Opal J. Long




A funeral service, celebrating the life of Opal J. Long, 80, of Pataskala, was held May 6, 2017, in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with her son-in-law Robert Fry as celebrant. Burial followed in the Pataskala Cemetery.

Opal died May 3, 2017 in Westerville, following an extended illness. She was born in Columbus, on March 6, 1937, the daughter of the late Chester and Opal (Beard) Harris. She was retired from the F & R Lazarus Co.

She loved sewing, crocheting and teaching jazzercise classes. A devout Christian, she played the organ for several churches. Opal loved working in the flower gardens around her house.

She is survived by her loving family: her husband, Darwin Long, whom she married on her birthday, March 6, in 1954; her children, Debra (David) Fry, Kathy (Robert) Fry, Michael (Dawn) Long and Timothy (Lori) Long; her sister, Mildred (David) Demos; grandchildren, Aaron (Jessica) Fry, Andrew (Tracie) Fry, Amy (Eric) Lloyd, Michael (Margaret) Fry, Joshua (Brittany) Long, Alissa (Ted) Brooks, Jennifer (Joshua) Ungemach,, Kelston (Tyler) Woolard, Kaleb Long and Kassidy Long; and her 15 greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by a grandchild, Aubrey Long.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Mount Carmel Hospice.
