Norma S. Black

A memorial service celebrating the life of Norma S. Black of Hebron will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, at Second Presbyterian Church, 42 East Church Street, Newark, with the Reverend Todd Tracy and the Reverend Jim Addi officiating. Inurnment will take place at Licking Cemetery at a later date.

Norma was born August 11, 1927, in Hebron, to the late Allen Eugene and Leona Luvina (Fought) Swartz. She died on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Arlington Care Center in Newark. She was 90. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Warren Black (2012); six sisters; two brothers; a nephew; and three grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Beth) Black of Hebron and Dr. Warren (Karla) Black, DVM, of Tracy, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark and was an active volunteer for many years. She graduated from Kirkersville High School and The Ohio State University. Norma was a dedicated educator, teaching kindergarten for most of her career. She taught at Bremen Schools, Newark Township, and retired from the Lakewood School District (Hebron) in 1983.

She also was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, The Order of the Eastern Star, Eagon Chapter, Licking County Farm Bureau, Licking County Retired Teachers Association, and numerous community organizations.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service (from 10-11 a.m.) on Saturday, January 13, at Second Presbyterian Church, 42 East Church Street, Newark, Ohio,
