Norma Jean Brodbelt Harris

Norma Jean Brodbelt Harris, 81, died March 30, 2009, holding hands with her family.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Dwight R. Harris in their 50th year of marriage; five children, D. Richard Harris II & Heidi Harris of MA, Rhoda J. Harris & James Irwin of NJ, Melinda Harris & Brian Rance of NY, James Brodbelt Harris of OH, & Mary C. Harris of CA; six grandsons, Carrick, Jarrod & Quinton Irwin, Alexander & Benjamin Harris & William Rance; sister, Marguerite Rusk; sisters in law, Shirley Brodbelt & Marilee Harris.

Jean’s father Samuel was a grandson of Dr. James Brodbelt who settled on a farm in the 1840’s on the National Road & Darby Creek. Her mother Clara of Lancaster was a daughter of Civil War veteran Martin Behle & Elizabeth Mayer whose roots in Fairfield Co date to 1820’s.

Born October 24, 1927, Jean grew up on Columbus’s old South Side & married in 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church in German Village. She liked to row out to her father’s islands at Buckeye Lake. Later she helped manage family farms and renovate a 19th C. one room school. A graduate of Central High School & OSU, she later studied in Mexico & then taught language & drama in Tipp City & Upper Arlington. Jean was president of the Bexley Women’s Club & committed to her children’s activities.

Services will be at 11a.m. on April 18, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley.
