Nora N. Wells, 95, of Baltimore, passed away peacefully at her home July 6, 2017.
Nora, a longtime Baltimore resident, was born on May 7, 1922, on what is now know as Sheets Road in Fairfield County. After marrying Homer “Doc” Wells on June 26, 1939, in Greenup, Kentucky, they moved to Baltimore in 1951.
Nora went to work with her husband in 1967 at Wells Market, which was located at the corner of Mulberry and North Main streets in Baltimore. Prior to working at Wells Market, she worked at the Reincheld Nursing Home from 1962 to 1964. She also did housecleaning, babysitting, and baked bread that she sold to customers Homer Wells brought to her. She also baked pies for Beulah Church, Baltimore.
Nora was a member of the Walnut Creek Baptist Church and the Baltimore Senior Citizens Group.
Nora is survived by her children, Sharon Benson and Ron (Fran) Wells; grandchildren, Sean (Reva) Wells, Ronda Rose, DeAnn (Mark) McKenzie, Jeff (Cathy) Benson, and Lisa (John) Lucas; step grandchildren, Rick (Tammie) Magley, Kathy Gaskill, and Roy Gaskill; many great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Relva Van Buren and Myrtle Doty; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer “Doc” Wells; parents, Homer and Helen (Sharp) Sheets; brothers, Lewis and George Sheets; sister, Edna Mae McCarty; son-in-law, Dale Benson; and granddaughter, Carman Rathbone.
Funeral service for Nora was held July 10, 2017, at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore with Pastor Michael McManus officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore.
