New chief in Kirkersville

Editor:

Current Kirkersville acting Police Chief Milton (Eric) Sayatovich was an officer in Alexandria in June, 2009. He was also the subject of complaints there when a woman said the Attorney General’s office (in 2009) gave her information that Sayatovich was “not up-to-date on his certifications and should not be permitted to carry out duties.”

According to a news story in a Columbus area paper in June, 2009, Alexandria Mayor Harold Lee claimed to have received a letter from OPOTA (Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy) stating that Sayatovich “must cease functioning due to failure to comply with required training.”

Sayatovich’s record from OPOTA gives this work history information:

Kirkersville 5-15-04 to 10-2- 04 discharged;

Frazeysburg 10-18-04 to 07/8/05 resigned;

McArthur 06/07/06 to 3/31/07 discharged;

Thornville 02/ 11/ 08 to 3/31/08 discharged;

Alexandria 05/ 20/ 08 to 10/20/09 resigned;

Utica 07/23/09 to 12/31/09 resigned;

Kirkersville 06/ 23/ 11 to 02/01/13 resigned; and

Kirkersville 6/01/13 to current.

Former GOB Bennie Evans is running for a Kirkersville council seat in November. Evans still works for the Licking County Planning Commission. Readers may recall several complaints on Evans that Prosecutor Ken Oswalt invited me to bring before a committee. Some of the complaints were that Evans was giving county jobs to his son-in-law who worked for a business that Evans’ previously owned. Evans’ daughter took over ownership of the business. Oswalt and two of the Licking County Commissioners at that time (Bubb and Smith) seemed to condone Evans’ bad decisions.
