MILLERSPORT – Using Global Positioning Systems, Millersport High School students are capturing real-time global positioning points for use in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The Village of Millersport has contracted with Operator Training Committee of Ohio, Inc. (OTCO) to create a GIS map of its drinking water distribution system.
Created in 1964, OTCO is a non-profit training center dedicated to assisting water and wastewater treatment systems in achieving compliance through operator training and assistance.
OTCO held several training events with high school students to ensure they were properly trained to collect (or capture) GIS points. This week the students and OTCO staff will be working in and around Millersport collecting positioning points. The students and OTCO staff have ID’s and an OTCO logo on the back of their safety vests.
